What is National Coming Out Day and ‘why do we even need a day like this’, you say? 🤔
National Coming Out Day is NOT a day to pressure LGBTQ+ individuals into coming out or to judge those who haven't done so. It's a day to celebrate the beauty of embracing your true self, to commend the courage it takes to reveal an important aspect of your life to others, and to support those who may confide in you.
Instead of viewing coming out as exposing oneself or confessing something, we should see it as a declaration of self-discovery, an invitation for others to be a part of that journey.✨
National Coming Out Day should also serve as a reminder of the challenges that can accompany coming out, and the fact that not all LGBTQ+ people can safely do so.
