Celebrating Global Accessibility Awareness Day (GAAD)

Written by Island Pitch Crew | May 16, 2024 7:00:00 AM

Today, we join the global community in recognizing Global Accessibility Awareness Day (GAAD). As a technology and innovation consulting firm, we believe that doing cool things the right way means ensuring that our work is inclusive and accessible to everyone.

What is GAAD?

GAAD is an annual event on the 3rd Thursday each May dedicated to raising awareness and promoting digital accessibility for people with disabilities. It's a day to celebrate the progress made in making technology accessible to all, while also acknowledging the work that still needs to be done.

Why Accessibility Matters

At Island Pitch, we understand that accessibility is not just a legal requirement or a nice-to-have feature. It's a fundamental human right and it has benefits on all sides. Everyone deserves equal access to information, services, and opportunities, regardless of their abilities. When we design and develop products and services with accessibility in mind, we're not only creating a more inclusive world, but we're also opening up new markets and expanding our reach for new customers and markets.

Our Commitment to Accessibility (A11y)

Our motto, "Do Cool Things the Right Way!®", extends to everything we do, including our commitment to accessibility. We strive to:

    • Design with inclusivity in mind

We consider the needs of people with disabilities from the very beginning of the design process, ensuring that our products and services are usable by everyone.
    • Follow accessibility standards

We adhere to established accessibility guidelines, such as the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG), to ensure that our work meets the highest standards of accessibility.
    • Test for accessibility

We conduct thorough accessibility testing throughout the development process, using a combination of automated tools and manual testing by people with disabilities.
    • Educate our team

We provide ongoing training and education to our team members about accessibility best practices, ensuring that everyone understands the importance of inclusivity.

How We're Making a Difference

We're proud of the work we've done to promote accessibility. Here are a few examples of how we're making a difference:

    • Developing accessible websites and apps

We ensure that our digital products are accessible to people with disabilities, including those who use assistive technologies like screen readers.
    • Creating accessible content

We make sure that our content is available in multiple formats, such as text, audio, and video, to accommodate different needs.
    • Advocating for accessibility

We speak out about the importance of accessibility and encourage others to join us in creating a more inclusive world.

Join Us in Celebrating GAAD

On this Global Accessibility Awareness Day, we invite you to join us in celebrating the progress made in digital accessibility and in committing to doing cool things the right way. Let's work together to create a world where everyone has equal access to technology and the opportunities it provides.
